Mind of Golf

Water Hazard

150 × 150 cm · Mixed media on canvas, 3D element · 2026

Water changes everything.

One moment, the swing is free, the gaze clear. Then suddenly, water lies between the golfer and his target. And with it comes the real opponent: the thought in his head. “Not the water.”

In WATER HAZARD, Ralf List captures precisely this moment. The focus is not on the obstacle itself, but on the fear of it. The more the golfer tries to avoid the water, the more overwhelming its presence becomes.

The oversized, three-dimensional golf ball emerges from the canvas as a sculpture, making the decisive moment almost physically palpable. Painting and sculpture merge into a work full of tension, movement, and psychology.

WATER HAZARD depicts a feeling every golfer knows: The ball isn’t in the water yet. But in the golfer’s mind, it’s already there.
